Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing stories from my life that, with the benefit of hindsight, I now see were quietly shaping the person I was becoming. They took place on different continents, among different cultures, and with remarkable people, but they are not really about travel. They are about what life revealed along the way.
Dear friends, I invite you to join me on this journey of becoming!
The Voice I Couldn’t Ignore
Imagine being fifteen years old with a voracious appetite for books. Not just any books, but stories set in faraway countries. I also loved atlases and could spend hours tracing continents with my finger, imagining what life might be like in places I had never seen.
Then one sunny afternoon, I was lying on the grass watching the clouds drift by when something extraordinary happened.
I distinctly heard a voice within me say,
“You are going to live and work overseas.”
It wasn’t simply something I heard. The words resonated through my entire body. Even at fifteen, I knew the difference between a passing thought and something much deeper. These words didn’t enter my mind; they settled into my being.
That moment changed the course of my life.
Those few words became a quiet thread woven through the years that followed. They guided me through a series of remarkable synchronicities and eventually gave me the courage to leave my marriage, leave Canada, and follow a path I could never have planned.
The more I listened to that inner voice, the more I trusted it.
That trust carried me to live on five continents and travel through more than eighty countries. Along the way, synchronicity became such a natural part of my life that I learned to pay attention to the people I met, the conversations I had, the books that found me, and the unexpected opportunities that appeared. Time and again, those seemingly ordinary moments nudged me in a particular direction.
Looking back, I can see that this quiet guidance not only led me into extraordinary adventures, but also helped me navigate several situations that could have turned out very differently.
I feel deeply grateful that I recognized that voice so early in my life and, more importantly, that I chose not to dismiss it.
I can only speak from my own experience, but I have come to trust that there is a quiet wisdom within me that has always known the next step, even when my mind could not see the whole path.
Learning to trust that inner knowing has made the journey through life feel less like a struggle and more like a conversation.
It isn’t something I can explain or prove.
It is simply something I have lived.
Over the years, I have found that the more I honour that quiet inner voice, the more life seems to unfold with a sense of ease and unexpected synchronicity.
Trust begins the moment we stop ignoring what we know deep within ourselves.
This is only one story. There are many more waiting to be told. If you’d like to walk alongside me as they unfold, I’d be delighted to have you subscribe.
